TOPIC: QUENCH THE STRANGE FIRE

TOPIC: QUENCH THE STRANGE FIRE (JAMES 3:5-6)

The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. The tongue is a fire. It can produce either holy fire or strange fire. Acts 2:3, “They saw what seemed to be tongue of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

The presence of the Holy Spirit in a life produces holy tongue and holy fire.
When given utterance by the Holy Spirit, you declare the wonders of God in God’s language (Heavenly language) – Acts 2:5-11.

Heavenly language is a conversation all full of grace, seasoned with salt which will lead to the strengthening, encouragement and comfort of the hearers – Col.4:6, Cor.14:3, Mark 16:7b. The Lord has given me the tongue of the learned, Psalm 1:2-3, Prov. 15:28, Prov. 16:24.
Sanctified tongue does not cause death or sorrow. A strange and unsanctified or untamed tongue produces curses on men and God (Jesus), James 3:4, 1 Cor. 12:3.

The tongue of every one that comes into the world is untamed and produces both praises and curses. It produces both fresh water and salt water. It bears fig and olive fruits.– Rom. 1:3, 23, 10-18, Rom. 7:7-25, 1 Peter 2:11, James 4:1-3.

An untamed tongue is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:7-8 “the tongue is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupt the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell – James 3:6, 1 Peter 3:8-12, 1 Peter 2:12, James 4:4-12, James 3:6, Luke 11:33-36 “… see to it, then that the light (tongue) within you is not darkness… therefore if your whole body is full of light (tamed tongue), and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.”

Your eye (tongue) is the lamp of your body. When your eyes (tongue) are good your whole body also is full of light (good conversation). But when they are bad, your body is full of darkness. “No one lights a lamp and put it in a place where it will be hidden or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on stand, so that those who come in may see the light (tamed tongue)”, Luke 11:35-36, 34, 35, Matt. 5:13-16.

The tongue can set on fire a great forest, James 3:5. It can make great boasts. It is like the bits in the mouth of horses, small rudder of the ship and small spark of fire. It turns the whole horse to obey us, steer the whole ship driven by strong winds to wherever the captain wants to go and consumes the whole great forest respectively – James 3:3-6, Prov. 12:18.

When you tame your tongue you will never be at fault in what you say, able to keep your whole body in check, hence you become a perfect man – James 3:2. However, we all stumble in many ways, example Peter the Apostle stumbled, Gal. 2:11-14. The Prophet Isaiah was a man of unclean lips until after Isaiah 6:5-7.

Hence be quick to listen but slow to speak. Don’t want to be a teacher of the Holy Bible, pastor, prophet, evangelist or apostle. Even if you are one now don’t be fast to speak – James 3:1-2, James 1:19.

THE ACTION EXPECTED OF YOU NOW!
1.            Confess – Isaiah 6:5
2.            Pray – 11 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by name will humble themselves and pray….”
3.            Do the word – James 1:22-25
4.            Keep tight rein on your tongue – James 1:26
5.            Be wise and unselfish – James 3:13-18, James 1:27
6.            Ask only with good intentions – James 4:1-3
7.            Do complete turn around maintenance on your tongue – James 4:4-12
8.            Don’t boast – James 4:13-16
9.            Do whatever you know to be good – James 4:17
10.         Do everything only with faith – Romans 14:23
11.         Be patient with yourself, the Lord and everyone – James 5:7-11
12.         Above all, do not swear – James 5:12
13.         Are you in trouble? Then pray! James 5:13
14.         Are you happy? Then sing songs of praise – James 5:13b
15.         Are you sick? Then call for the church Elders to pray over you and anoint you with (olive) oil in the name of the Lord – James 5:14
16.         Confess your sins to each other – James 5:16
17.         Pray for each other so that you may be healed – James 5:16-18
18.         Do your best to bring back those who have wandered from the truth, turning them from the error of their way and save them from death and cover over a multitude of their sins – James 5:19.
19.         Undo your wrongs to others. Confess your sins only to those you have sinned against and make necessary adjustment and restitution to them. And if someone comes to you confessing his sins, don’t blow it up, but keep it to yourself. If someone sins against you, don’t go on air to announce it to everyone. Keep it to yourself – Matt. 5:25-26, Matt 18:15-17, Matt. 8:21-35, Luke 15:11-31.
20.         Don’t return evil for evil – Matt 5:38-42, 43-48, Rom 12:17-21.
Break up the fallow ground and don’t sow among the thorns. An untamed tongue is a fallow ground, cleans it today (tame it). Make the root clean, and the branches will be clean. Be cleansed through Christ the chief cornerstone and water of your life, then your fruits will be clean. Do not give that which is holy to the dogs. Don’t sow among the thorns. Don’t offer your sacrifice anywhere. Don’t be hasty to lay hands on people. Don’t put new wine into old wine skin. Don’t sow new cloth on old clothe.

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. However, the extent to which the container is clean determines the degree of purity of water from it. Make the root clean, then the branches will be clean, make the container very clean, then the water from it will be very clean. Remove the root then the branches will die. Remove the tree from the water container then the water will cause death and barrenness again. Remove salt from food, then the taste disappears. Christ says abide in me. If you abide in Christ you will produce much fruits – John 15:1-6. Don’t remove Christ from you.
